There\’s many a slip \’twixt the cup and the lip．酒杯到唇边，还可能滑走。
此谚语出自英国作家Dr．Brewer讲述的希腊神话中的故事。\’twixt=betwixt，即between。
另有两句意思相同，用同一比喻的谚语：

中国谚语“天有不测风云，人有旦夕祸福”，还有俗语“高兴得太早，没有夜饭吃”，都是说事情难以十拿九稳，慎防功亏一篑；尚未完全成功的事，不能高兴得太早。
