本谚语是从拉丁文In vino veritas译过来的，有时人们在英文作品中仍喜欢用些拉丁文。

此句是倒装的，调过来说就是Drunkenness reveals what soberness conceals．即“酒醉时往往透露出清醒时隐瞒起来的事”，此语可译作：酒醉吐真言。
