Live not to eat, but eat to live．不为吃饭而活着，而为活着而吃饭。
此谚语巧妙地把to eat与to live交替使用，正好强调二者不能颠倒。意思是“人生的目的不是为了吃饭。”试看还有一些谈论人生的谚语：
