Between two stools one falls to the ground．脚踏两凳者，终会堕地。
这条谚语运用了比喻来说明，做事要目标明确，不应模棱两可，甚至一心两用，贪得无厌，否则将一事无成。交朋友要态度鲜明，不能两面讨好，否则只会两面不讨好。正好相当于中文一句谚语：“脚踏两头船，终会落水。”
