Diligence is the mother of success．勤奋是成功之母。
这条谚语也可写作Diligence is the mother of good fortune。the mother of或the father of是谚语的常用句式，如Failure is the mother of success.（失败为成功之母）就是很常见的比喻形式。作为比喻本来可以写成Diligence is like the mother of success。而本谚语把like省略了，直接把前后两者等同起来，就是用了暗喻。两者相比，这显然比明喻意思更深刻一点。
不用比喻直接说明这意思的谚语有：
